A Peek Into Our Home Offices

Working from home is the new norm for many of us as we maneuver through this unpredictable time. We asked the team to share the very place where every idea was born and content created since the start of quarantine. The below photographs of our work space lead the conversation into our office essentials, productivity tips and how we find a work-life balance on the tabletop and beyond.

Brea

What are your office essentials?

Palo Santo, Apple magic mouse, iced coffee, notebook, plants, music.

What do you like about your work space? Have you made any adjustments?

It’s now a shared space with my fiancé who is a musician. Art and music are a huge part of our lives and as we share this space during quarantine, we have made it into one part office, one part studio. The room is filled with art from our talented friends as well as pieces we have collected on our travels and all of Miles’ music instruments for recording. It feels like a productive space for us to create together and separately.

What helps you stay productive?

Coffee and music! If I feel distracted, I will put on my noise canceling headphones to get in the zone or I tune into Reverberation Radio for easy listening and a range of unique and worldly playlists.

Maggie

What are your office essentials?

Water tumblr, planner, comfy chair, external hard drive, and good lighting.

What do you like about your work space? Have you made any adjustments?

I was working from my dining table until my aching back and tail bone sent me back to my office desk and chair. I’ve been using my office desk as my makeup vanity so I had to re-organize it and make room for my laptop. This office desk I’ve had since college has a pull-out panel which I love for extra surface. My favorite part of the work space is the framed art from my best friend and the ceramic pen holder that I made for fun. I keep a few design-related readings within reach for some visual and creative inspiration when needed.

What helps you stay productive?

I’ve always had the habit of making a to-do list on my planner first thing in the morning and checking each item off as I go throughout the day. I also make a weekly one to help me visualize my workload and remind me of important tasks and due dates.

What are your office essentials?

A water carafe and a cup of coffee are my work desk essentials. I try to stay hydrated throughout the day and having a carafe limits my trips to the kitchen because we all know how that goes!

I love that my desk is next to the window. I can see our little backyard and some palm trees from my seat. It’s also an amazing feeling whenever I open my window blinds and let the sun fill the area first thing in the morning.

My current work desk is actually my mini home studio where I do most of my craft projects. I had to move my sewing equipment to make space for my laptop!

What helps you stay productive?

I try to keep my usual 9-5 routine and work from my desk. I never take my work to the living room or my bed because I can get too comfortable and distracted. Another trick is before I go up to grab snacks, I challenge myself to at least check a task off my to-do list then I reward myself!

Have you made any adjustments?

One of my key rules to maintaining a healthy work-life balance has always been to separate my personal space from my work space. I try and consciously leave work at the office so that my home is my place to rest and recharge. Unfortunately, the current situation has given me no choice but to creatively combine my personal and professional life in a small apartment space. I’ve found the best way for me to do this has been to set up a designated area for work, so when I’m done with my day I can “leave” my office mentally even though it is technically the same environment.

As many of you can probably relate to, the hardest part about the transition from working at an office space to working at home, is for those of us who have roommates! Both my roommate and I are 9-5’ers who are now utilizing our small apartment as a pseudo-office. We found that keeping a shared google doc calendar of when we each have important meetings has really helped us respect each other’s work space! Over-communication has been key in both of us being able to work from home.

What are your office essentials?

Besides all the typical office essentials, as of late the most important has been my routine fresh squeezed lemon water. I have it consistently throughout the day to stay hydrated and help boost my immune system. I also always have a fresh bouquet of flowers on my desk. Right now I have Jasmine from my parents’ garden which is my absolute favorite. They say the floral scent of Jasmine has properties that help to reduce stress!

What do you like about your work space?

Lemon water and fresh flowers are key to keeping me focused, happy and healthy! But what is truly my favorite thing about my new home office space? I have all my Trader Joe’s snacks 5 feet from my desk :)
