Denim on Denim and Trench Coat Roundup

January 4, 2017 - 102 Comments

It’s a rare day that I’m not wearing denim of some sort. Whether it’s a pair of jeans or a denim top, or a denim jacket, I usually have at least one piece on. It’s just the easiest, most versatile thing you can wear. Then of course there’s the denim-on-denim days, like today. Distressed jeans are my go-to, and this pair from SJYP has been my favorite for a while now (similar pairs here and here). Also wearing a Mother Denim top (similar here) with a striped t-shirt underneath for a little extra detail. Added a pop of color with a Prada bag I’ve had on repeat, and a pair of Chloe suede pumps (affordable version here), which are the easiest way to dress up a pair of jeans while not having to sacrifice comfort.  This is me doing my happy hair flip. My hairstylist, Anh Tran from Ramirez Tran Salon does my hair and I hardly ever have any bad hair days anymore. I mean, going three, sometimes four days of not washing and not brushing (I never brush my hair) my hair still doesn’t look so bad because Anh does such an amazing job on the haircut. I didn’t realize what a good haircut was until I met him.  Breaking up the blue with a green SJYP belted trench coat (similar here). I’m so into trenches and kimonos because they make dressing so easy and I like how they make me look pulled together. My mom used to wear long coats and long cardigans all the time when I was growing up and I guess that’s where my love for long jackets come from. I think the biggest misconception of long coats and trenches/kimonos are that they make you look short but I beg to differ. It all depends on the length of the coat but my mom is 5’4 and her coats hit her right around the ankle which I think makes her look taller than she is and makes her look so chic. When I wear her coats, they hit me in the mid calves and if anything, I find that coats that hit the awkward knee length, actually makes you look shorter and doesn’t have that ‘cool’ effect. So I suggest going with coats that hit below knee or longer.
